There is mouting evidence this evening that both Israel and Syria are planning contingencies to face off against each other once again. The Israeli cabinet has agreed to widen the country’s ground offensive against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon:
The decision, made at a closed door session, received unanimous approval, a senior political source said.
In the latest fighting, Israeli war planes struck the eastern Lebanon Lebanese officials said.
Earlier Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ruled out an immediate truce, saying Israel would continue its offensive as long as its security was threatened.
Mr Olmert also reiterated calls for the release of the two Israeli soldiers seized by Hezbollah – whose capture in a cross-border raid sparked the conflict on 12 July.
Speaking in Tel Aviv he said the offensive would end “when the threat over our heads is removed (and) when our kidnapped soldiers return to their homes”. More…
At the same time there is mounting evidence that Syria has placed their military on alert and may be planning an incursion into Lebanon if Israeli ground forces step up plans for a significant ground invasion. Israel’s inner security cabinet voted early Tuesday to expand Israel’s ground operations in Lebanon. The Israeli government had already called up an additional 15,000 reservists last week.
Tensions continued to climb a day after an Israeli missile killed at least 56 people including 30 children, who had sought refuge in a building in the Lebanese village of Qana. Israel called the incident a tragedy and was investigating.
On Monday, Hizbollah launched two rockets at northern Israel, the first after the temporary suspension of aerial attacks on Lebanon was announced. On Sunday, the Lebanese Shiite militia launched at least 140 rockets at Israel, the highest number yet since fighting broke out on July 12.
Syrian President Bashar Assad said that the Syrian Army would not be deterred from “assisting brothers and supporting resistance.” In a letter to the Syrian Army on its 61st anniversary, Assad said that Syria is “more strong and more willing” to stand by Arabs in Lebanon and Palestine and should prepare themselves as much as possible. More…
Every indication is pointing to a wider conflict before the week is out. Seems like Condi and GWB have as much influence over Israel as China has over N. Korea.

Bleeding from the gut…
MiamiHerald:
Cuban leader Fidel Castro has temporarily ceded his presidential power to brother R?ul Castro due to illness, according to Cuban national television.
The unprecedented announcement came in a communique read over state television. It said that Fidel Castro would be undergoing surgery.
The precise nature of that surgery was not immediately known, but the announcement said that Castro suffered from gastrointestinal bleeding.
The statement read by Carlos Valenciaga, Castro’s secretary, attributed the ailment to stress from recent public appearances in Cuba and Argentina, but the situation appeared serious.

This story was run in Reuters today reflecting the build up of confidence within the Iranian leadership that Israel can be contained militarily. While most of this rhetoric is posturing, it serves to enhance Iran’s ambition and image to the muslim on the street as they hope to become the dominant military power that will defeat Israel and prevent the U.S. from advancing western ideology in the region.
Reuters:
TEHRAN (Reuters) -
Iran’s hardline forces should get ready to take revenge on
Israel and the United States for the offensive on Lebanon, the head of the Revolutionary Guards was quoted as saying on Sunday.
“The Basij and Revolutionary Guards should prepare to get even with the Zionists and Americans,” Yahya Rahim-Safavi was quoted as telling Islamic militiamen by the conservative Fars news agency.
The Basij are volunteer Islamic militiamen.
“The timing of the this will be announced by the leader,” he added.
We suspect Iran believes that the U.S. armed forces can’t walk and chew gum at the same time.

Nice!! Another Fidel in the making… Shades of Cuban Missle Crisis anyone? Yo…Fidel! What are you chopped liver? Can’t leverage those Cuban cigars like Venezuelan oil can you? Too bad. No tears here.
Chavez want’s his place on the world stage as well. Will all the lunatic dictators please stand up and be counted while the rest of the world appears frozen staring into the headlights. Looking for clear leadership? The London-Washington tag team perhaps? Dudes… don’t look towards Washington — we have an election to get ready for. This is no time for any bi-partisan strategy to counter looming foreign threats. Get real — we have an election in four months!
(TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The presidents of Iran and Venezuela, leading U.S. critics, pledged Saturday to support one another in disputes with Washington, with the Iranian calling Hugo Chavez ‘a brother and trench mate.’
As Chavez arrived for a two-day visit. Iran faced renewed international criticism for its nuclear program and for backing Hezbollah guerrillas in its war with Israel.
The five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council on Friday reached a deal on a resolution that would give Iran until the end of August to suspend uranium enrichment or face the threat of economic and diplomatic sanctions. Iranian state radio said Saturday the government would reject the proposed resolution.
Chavez pledged that his country would ‘stay by Iran at any time and under any condition.’”

Need further evidence of what the world has in store for it if Islamo-fascist radical Islam prevails and spreads from the middle east? This atrocity occured in Jordan, a “moderate” progressive Islamic nation which is still reticent to outlaw Sharia laws. Where are the U.S. and western leftist feminists voicing their horror? In fact, doesn’t it seem strange that they are not out there visibly and vocally condeming radical islam in general? Could it be that a conflict of interest exists with their left wing agenda and they would actually prefer silence on issues such as this distaining the thought of taking a stand on a idea that is in any way aligned with the Bush administration and conservative thought in general. What ever happened to the JFK brand of hawkish democrats of the 60s who were ready to go to war to protect western liberties and freedoms? Is it only Joe Liberman that’s left carrying that flag for the dems? If course not… but why the silence?
Here is a glimpse of a world under the rule of radical Islam. If you don’t think WWIII will become a war of also including “moderate” muslims against radical fanaticism such as this, think again. The governments of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Eqypt and other moderate states better wake up along with the rest of the islamo-EU and the world in general and crack down on this barbaric religious fanaticism. Honor killing and female genital mutilation are just the tip of the iceberg. It will be interesting to see the reaction of the Jordanian officials.

AMMAN – A Jordanian woman hacked her 26-year-old daughter to death in her sleep with an axe for giving birth out of wedlock, the Jordan Times reported Sunday.
The 69-year-old mother and another daughter turned themselves in to police after Saturday’s killing, claiming they had acted to cleanse the “family honour”, the paper said, quoting official sources.
They were charged with premeditated murder, the sources said.
The victim had been divorced for the past seven years and had given birth to a boy on the day she was murdered.
Hours later “her enraged mother decided to kill her to cleanse the family honour,” one official told the newspaper.
“The mother and daughter waited until the victim went to sleep, took an axe and hacked her repeatedly until they made sure she was dead,” the official said.
More than 10 women have been killed in similar “honour crimes” since January in the conservative Muslim kingdom.
Khaleej Times, which ran this story today, is the No.1 English language daily newspaper published from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. There is nothing on the wire yet from AP as of this posting.

Mel Gibson has casted himself in a new full length motion picture as covered by satirist Scott Ott.
2006-07-29) “Police in Malibu, California, got a rare treat this week when they encountered Passion of the Christ producer-director Mel Gibson as he prepared for his next “?dead language”? film.
Delivering his lines in a slurred dialect of anti-Semitic (?a language spoken only by a primitive tribe of amateur linguists)? Mr. Gibson gave the officers a preview of coming attractions for his new film Nosedive, which chronicles the downfall of an immensely popular actor and filmmaker following a drunken public outburst.
“He stayed in character the whole time,”? said one unnamed officer, who played along with Mr. Gibson’?s act by arresting and booking him, then releasing him on bond. “?He’?s an amazingly versatile actor. When I saw him in Braveheart I believed he was a Scottish warrior-poet, and the other night, I really believed that he was a drunken anti-Semite.”?
A spokesman for Mr. Gibson’?s production company said the new film will include no subtitles.” – as reported by satirist Scott Ott / ScrappleFace
