Denying that he did anything wrong and stating emphatically that “I am not gay,” Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) asked the people of Idaho on Tuesday to forgive him for being arrested two months ago in a police sting in a men’s room at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
Craig, who was taken into custody on June 11 by a plainclothes officer investigating reports of lewd conduct in the restroom, said he pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge in an effort to suppress a story — pursued by his home-state newspaper — that he has secretly engaged in gay trysts.
Craig said the story has been following him for nearly a year. – Fox News
Another nightmare is unraveling for Republican Conservatives in the form of Senator Larry Craig. Mitt Romney clearly comes out in strong opposition of the alleged behavior(s) even while some sharp reporters are asking Senator Craig in public why he is keeping himself in the “closet” and just exactly what’s wrong with him proclaiming himself gay? The questions occurred as he walk off the podium at his press conference asking forgiveness for his “transgression” as his wife stands next to him looking like a deer in headlights. Politics and double standards… they sure go hand in hand.
Hold on to your seats folks. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet !!
California-based Accredited Home Lenders says that it would stop writing new loans and lay off more than half its workforce. Lehman Brothers is shuttering its BNC Mortgage unit. And Quality Home Loans has joined about a dozen mortgage companies in filing for bankruptcy.
Subprime losses also might foreshadow losses on other new securities. Some of these bundle other loans: auto loans, credit card loans, business loans. In 2006, issuance of all these “asset-backed securities” totaled $748 billion, says Moody’s Investors Service. Other securities perform more exotic tasks. “Credit default swaps” in effect provide insurance against losses on loans (one party pays the other to cover specific losses if they occur).
In theory, all this diversifies risk; in practice, it may disguise risk.
Companies that approve loans (”originators”) often don’t hold them. Loan standards may slip because originators get paid on volume. “The originator has less reason to worry about loan performance down the line,” says economist Joseph Mason of Drexel University. Rating agencies such as Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s evaluate creditworthiness. But the task is gargantuan and global in scale. Moody’s rates 100 nations, 12,000 corporations, 29,000 governmental units and more than 96,000 debt securities. Economist Charles Calomiris of Columbia University worries that agencies may subtly relax ratings because the more securities that are issued, the more the rating agencies make.
The verdict on the new order is unsettled. No one really understands its Byzantine ways. “It has become so complex and so arcane,” former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan said recently, that it is “swamping” governments’ regulatory controls. Yet, it “seemingly works because there is an implicit, invisible hand which creates . . . smoothness.” Most markets, he said, self-regulate. That’s reassuring — up to a point.
Greed and fear are not always self-correcting. If foreign and domestic investors lose confidence, who knows what might happen? Credit might become scarcer as they retreat to safe securities. Interest rates might rise. A panic is conceivable. The biggest upsets “come out of left field,” Greenspan noted. “We never anticipate.” – Robert Samuelson
So now we know why Karl Rove resigned earlier this month. Democrats are said to be jumping off of Washington buildings as the nefarious Republican strategy unfolds… LOL
(WASHINGTON - Satire) — Embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales submitted his letter of resignation over the weekend to President George Bush, who today announced he’ll fill the post with departing White House adviser Karl Rove.
The president said he selected Mr. Rove because “he meets the major qualification for the job by being one of the few unemployed, longterm Bush cronies available at the moment.”
Mr. Rove said he’s honored to accept the appointment to such a prestigious position, and he hopes he can “be effective at the attorney general’s main job which is to answer accusatory questions posed by Democrat lawmakers about perfectly legal activities.”
Mr. Gonzales, who has devoted the last year to fending off allegations that he fired eight political appointees for political reasons, said he’s leaving to “spend more time with family, away from the burden of a regular paycheck.”
He plans to write a tell-all memoir about his years at the justice department, tentatively entitled: “I Had No Idea.” — as described by satirical reporter Scott Ott / ScrappleFace
Got to hand it to Scott Ott for this little gem… If this happened, Democrats heads would explode !!
Who are the “Truthers” or “Troofers” as they are refered to by Cox & Forkum above?
Magical thinking neanderthals that believe there is a evil sinister government plot behind every mishap including Katrina and the great meteorite crater outside of Winslow Arizona. The quintessential paranoid personality archetype of the political left.
The Discovery Channel has been running a show debunking the 9/11 “truth” movement who are full of these magical thinkers: 9/11 Conspiracies: Fact or Fiction. The show airs twice more this weekend: Saturday, August 25 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, August 26 at 12:00 AM so be sure to check it out.
From Discovery Channel…
Examines the various conspiracy theories espoused on the
Internet, in articles and in public forums that attempt to explain the
9/11 attacks. It includes theories that the World Trade Center was
brought down by a controlled demolition; that a missile, not a
commercial airliner, hit the Pentagon; and that members of the U.S.
government orchestrated the attacks in hopes of creating a war in the
Middle East. Each conspiracy argument is countered by a variety of
experts in the fields of engineering, intelligence and the
military. The program also delves into the anatomy of such
conspiracies and how they grow on the Internet.
Facts??? We don’t need no stinking facts !!
It really just amazes us how much air play these mental morons get and how they are revered by the crazies and moonbat in the far left Democrat subculture. Yet they are the first ones to scream…. where is the government to help them when they themselves are victims. They are the very same people who lobby to handcuff our intelligence agencies, then cry “incompetence” when an event unfolds that the agencies were not aware of. Sick puppies with neurological disorders induced by copious amounts of leftist government conspiracy fantasy films from Hollywood screenplay writers. These poor souls can’t distinguish fact from fiction and have brains that are as pliable as cookie dough.
Here are two additional sources if information lifted from the C&F
site that are worth checking out. Just in case you feel yourself
succumbing to these conspiracy myths yourself.

Now this has to be one of the best strategies we have heard in a long time. Satirist Scott Ott fires away in sarcasm at Senator Warner for his extremely insightful strategy of changing the playing field in the War on Terror. Why not bring it here and give the troops a break !!
(WASHINGTON) — Sen. John Warner, R-VA, yesterday called on President George Bush to start bringing troops home from Iraq “to show al Qaeda that the U.S. commitment to fighting Muslim terrorists overseas is not open-ended.”
“This is a two-way street,” said Sen. Warner. “We’ve kept our end of the deal, delivering crushing blows to the terror networks, but al Qaeda has refused to capitulate. It’s time to send a strong, clear message that our devotion to fighting the enemies of freedom is not a blank check.”
The influential member of the Senate Armed Services Committee said, “Osama Bin Laden and his minions need to see that we mean business, and that someday soon they won’t have the U.S. military to kick around Iraq anymore.”
The lawmaker added that best way to quell the violence against U.S. forces in Iraq is to remove them from Iraq.
“After we’re out,” he said, “if al Qaeda wants to kill Americans they’ll have to come to America to do it, where our troops will be enjoying a well-deserved rest at home and time with their wives and children.” — [Hat Tip: -- satirist Scott Ott / ScrappleFace]
No doubt the good Senator has a clear plan and strategy for the aftermath in the Middle East in 2009 when the Democrats have control of the helm and the troops are ordered home. The strategy above sounds as plausible as any other we have heard from the leading Democratic candidates. You go Senator !!!

(WASHINGTON) — Former presidential rival Sen. John Kerry, D-MA, today filed suit against President George Bush over remarks to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) yesterday in which the president likened the consequences of an early pullout from Iraq to the blood-drenched aftermath of the U.S. retreat from Vietnam in the 1970s.
The lawsuit claims that Sen. Kerry, a professional Vietnam veteran, “holds exclusive rights among modern politicians to the use of Vietnam imagery, metaphor and analogy to present-day circumstances.” Essentially, the suit argues that President Bush infringed on Mr. Kerry’s copyright by even mentioning Vietnam in a political context.
In the VFW speech, the president cast a vision for a free Iraq, noting that during World War II few believed that Japan could ever become a free, democratic nation and a U.S. ally. During the Korean war, few dreamed that South Korea could become the economic engine of today, as well as a stalwart friend of the United States.
“And during the Vietnam war,” Mr. Bush added, “few could have hoped that U.S. military involvement would eventually produce a junior senator from Massachusetts who would become the second popularly-elected Democrat to never serve as president.” — as reported by satirist Scott Ott / ScrappleFace

Well now the U.S. has gone and done it! We have pissed off the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who has now put us on notice that they will in fact INCREASE their attacks on U.S. military who are seeking to establish a stable society within Iraq. The threat comes as Washington considers placing their organization on our State Department’s “Terrorist List”. This is the list used to seize the financial assets of terrorist organizations world wide. Are we gearing up for a show down with the Islamic Republic of Iran? You tell me…
(TEHRAN) - The commander of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards was quoted on Saturday as threatening to deal heavier blows in future against the United States after Washington said it may label the force a terrorist group.
The Iranian daily Kayhan said commander-in-chief Yahya Rahim Safavi made clear the Guards would not bow to U.S. pressure and would use all their leverage against the Americans.
Kayhan did not provide direct quotes from the speech in the central city of Isfahan on Thursday.
U.S. officials said on Wednesday that Washington may soon name the Revolutionary Guard Corps as a foreign terrorist group, a move that would enable Washington to target its finances.
It would be the first time the United States has placed the armed forces of a sovereign government on its list of terrorist organizations.
Tehran and Washington, which cut diplomatic ties shortly after Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution, are embroiled in a deepening standoff over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.
They also blame each other for bloodshed in Iraq.
Flipping the bird
The Revolutionary Guards have already brushed off the latest threat from Washington and have said they will grow in strength despite U.S. efforts to isolate them.
Iran has threatened to strike U.S. regional interests if attacked over its nuclear program and Safavi has noted that Iranian missiles could hit warships operating anywhere in the Gulf and Oman Sea.
Tehran rejects Western accusations it is trying to build an atomic bomb and says its nuclear program is meant for peaceful energy.
The two countries accuse each other of creating strife in the Middle East, including Lebanon, Iraq and the Palestinian territories. The crisis in Iraq has pushed the arch foes (Iraq and Iran) to hold rare face-to-face talks to find an end to the bloodshed there.
The United States says it would prefer a diplomatic solution to the nuclear standoff but has not ruled out military action.
The Revolutionary Guards are an ideologically driven force, who see themselves as a guardians of the Islamic Republic. They have a separate command structure from the regular military.
“The commander of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards was quoted on Saturday as threatening to deal heavier blows in future against the United States after Washington said it may label the force a terrorist group.” — This sure sounds like evidence that they have already crossed the line. The U.S. has every right to attempt to isolate their finanacial assets. The rest of the world doensn’t seem to give a sh-t what’s going on in those centrifuges. The U.N. is an impotent corrupt organization and their inspections are a joke. As for striking U.S. regional interests… I suspect Israel already has its battle plans drawn up… - zzb

CNN has wasted no time preempting the report by General Petraeus next month by conducting a poll in advance asking viewers if they would reject the report even if the General claims the U.S. is making progress. Nothing like unbiased journalism and loaded polling.
(ATLANTA) — With a new CNN poll showing that 53 percent of Americans plan to reject the upcoming Iraq progress report by the top U.S. military commander and the U.S. ambassador there, President George Bush today announced he had contracted with several CNN reporters and anchors to write the final version of the report “in order to salvage a shred of credibility”.
FROM CNN NEWS: “President Bush frequently has asked Congress — and the American people — to withhold judgment on his so-called troop surge in Iraq until Gen. David Petraeus, the commander in Iraq, and Ryan Crocker, U.S. ambassador to Iraq, issue their progress report in September.
But according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Thursday, 53 percent of people polled said they suspect that the military assessment of the situation will try to make it sound better than it actually is. Forty-three percent said they do trust the report.”
“I can understand why the American people don’t believe Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker — men who lay their lives on the line daily to bring peace and justice to Iraq,” said President Bush. “That’s why I’m hiring these journalism boys from Atlanta to write this report.”
The president, explaining the 11th-hour decision, said, “Americans trust the kind of men whose faces wear the stain of heavy cosmetic makeup, whose heads have born the burden of daily conditioning rinses and relentless doses of hairspray. But guys like Petraeus and Crocker — who live in Kevlar vests, floss the sand out of their teeth at night and make daily life-and-death choices — may be prone to stretch the truth. That’s why my fellow Americans put their faith in the men of CNN; men who employ people to choose their neckties, who wear earphones so others can tell them what to say and which way to turn. These are the kind of men who pour their blood, sweat and tears into devising a clever way to transition from a car-bombing story to the latest compelling video of Elvis impersonators. These are men of integrity, men who talk-the-walk and, therefore, men who have earned our trust.”
Meanwhile, the latest CNN poll shows that 92 percent of the people who get their news from CNN believe the results of the latest CNN poll. — [Hat Tip: Scott Ott / ScrappleFace]
