Here is an article from William Kristol that captures the essence of Sarah Palin. The democratic hard left is so frustrated that the fully expected smear campaign has already ramped up in all its most fecal glory. They will ironically smear themselves into being despised by moderates who will view McCain more so as a change agent who actually takes action selecting the first woman GOP VP than the change RHETORIC and SLOGAN creation that has been regurgitated ad nausium from Obama’s mouth and the DNC talking heads for the past two years. In the end actions do speak louder than words. When Obama had a chance to not only unite his party but make history himself selecting Hillary, he chose HIMSELF and HIS EGO over Hillary and the good of his party. Once again reinforcing that for Obama, it is always about me, myself and I.
A spectre is haunting the liberal elites of New York and Washington–the spectre of a young, attractive, unapologetic conservatism, rising out of the American countryside, free of the taint (fair or unfair) of the Bush administration and the recent Republican Congress, able to invigorate a McCain administration and to govern beyond it.
That spectre has a name–Sarah Palin, the 44-year-old governor of Alaska chosen by John McCain on Friday to be his running mate. There she is: a working woman who’s a proud wife and mother; a traditionalist in important matters who’s broken through all kinds of barriers; a reformer who’s a Republican; a challenger of a corrupt good-old-boy establishment who’s a conservative; a successful woman whose life is unapologetically grounded in religious belief; a lady who’s a leader.
So what we will see in the next days and weeks–what we have already seen in the hours after her nomination–is an effort by all the powers of the old liberalism, both in the Democratic party and the mainstream media, to exorcise this spectre. They will ridicule her and patronize her. They will distort her words and caricature her biography. They will appeal, sometimes explicitly, to anti-small town and anti-religious prejudice. All of this will be in the cause of trying to prevent the American people from arriving at their own judgment of Sarah Palin.
That’s why Palin’s spectacular performance in her introduction in Dayton was so important. Her remarks were cogent and compelling. Her presentation of herself was shrewd and savvy. I heard
from many who watched Palin–many of them not predisposed to support her–about how moved they were by her remarks, her composure, and her story. She will have a chance to shine again Wednesday night at the Republican convention.
But before and after that, she’ll be swimming in political waters infested with sharks. Her nickname when she was the starting point guard on an Alaska high school championship basketball team was “Sarah Barracuda.” I suspect she’ll take care of herself better than many expect.
But the McCain campaign can help. The choice of Palin was McCain’s own. Many of his staff expected, and favored, other more conventional candidates. The campaign may be tempted to overreact when one rash sentence or foolish comment by Palin from 10 or 15 years ago is dragged up by Democratic opposition research and magnified by a credulous and complicit media. Let Palin Be Palin.
The left may just be underestimating Sarah Palin’s charisma ala B. Obama. It wasn’t long ago that the Illinois Senator was a virtual unknown — his speaking skills commanded attention, especially in a visual medium. Enter Sarah Palin with similar skills and more executive background. Sen. Obama spent the majority of his first term as U.S. Senator running for President, accomplishing next to nothing but speeches. While a State Senator he voted “present” for bills that were tatamount to infanticide while even his democratic friends voted no. America does not know these two political personalities as well as they know Senators Biden and McCain. Sarah Palin is entitled to be given her due and opportunity to present herself to the American people and from what we are hearing she can more than hold her own when attacked.
This country has lost its civility no thanks to the slanted and biased media reporting and their efforts to make history with the inauguration of the first Black President. Yet there is also history to be made with the swearing in of the First Woman Vice President and it will be interesting to see just how hard the mainstream Dems will be willing to push back on Sarah Palin for not having “experience” without alienating moderate female and male voters while at the same time not looking like hypocrites with respect to their selection for President. Especially after passing over Senator Hillary Clinton, who certainly had more real experience than Obama in the U.S. Senate and her time as First Lady married to a once former unknown Governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton.

(DENVER) — Sen. Barack Obama today slammed his Republic opponent John McCain as “a sexist who sees women as subordinate to men and who intentionally puts them in his shadow,” just minutes after Sen. McCain announced he had selected Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.
“What could be more denigrating to women?” Sen. Obama asked a crowd of supporters in western Pennsylvania. “I think it’s shameful that Mrs. Palin’s name will always be mentioned after McCain’s and that she’ll earn less money than he will. American women are tired of being put in their place by men — treated as second-class citizens.”
Sen. Obama, who chose an elderly white man name Joe Biden as his running mate rather than his rival Sen. Hillary Clinton, said he avoided picking Mrs. Clinton “to spare her the humiliation that John McCain plans to impose on Sarah Palin.”

Scott Ott has managed to capture the irony in the upstaging of the DNC Convention by a woman other than Hillary Clinton. (Secretly we suspect she must have grinned and said to herself “right on sister” when the GOP VP pick was announced.)
You have to give John McCain credit for being a risk taker with guts. Likened to landing a fighter jet on the tossing deck of aircraft carrier at night in the middle of storm. You must admit he has guts and has countered the “inexperianced” factor taking the wind out of the DNC sails while running the risk of dissing white women moderate voters. This combination of Obama / Biden / McCain / Palin should make for some very interesting entertainment between now and November, both on and off the debate stage.

Bill Ayers, is more devastating to the Democrats winning the Presidency than anything Reverend Jeremiah Wright ever said. If you want any indication of this fact, Barack Obama has called upon the department of Justice to silence all attack advertisements relating to his association with William Ayers.
Our country was founded to prevent this form of speech suppression, but Obama’s willingness to use such tactics is an admission that Bill Ayers could destroy his campaign.
Barack Obama, instead of denouncing Ayers said that Ayers committed the acts when he was eight-years-old. That is the most intellectually dishonest argument of the last 50 years. If someone who was eight-years-old today grows up to befriend an older member of Al Qaeda, is that not a relevant reason to disqualify that person from being the President of the United States? Let me say without hesitation that William Ayers should have been executed for treason years ago.
The fact of the matter is the Bill Ayers said after 9/11 that he wished he had done more bombings. He openly hates America, and Barack Obama launched his political career out of Bill Ayer’s home. What does this say about Obama’s judgment regarding the company he keeps? Do we want someone in the White House who is comfortable calling a known bomber, anarchist and left wing violent radical, his friend and now wants the information on his background relationships with Ayers suppressed in the media? Are we to believe that he doesn’t have a hidden agenda? One which sympathies with the most his left wing philosophies which in fact sponsored his rise to political power. How do you take the chance on a guy like this to be the Commander-in-Chief?

The media in our nation has done a GREAT DISSERVICE by not properly researching Barack Obama’s background and past associations prior to the Iowa Caucus and primaries. Instead they glossed over all of it because they wanted to protect him so they great Cinderella story could be covered. America, you have been sold down the river by your own unwitting news media and main stream “journalists”. In the end ironically, the media’s reluctance to do their due diligence may cost the DNC the election once the general public begins to see, hear and evaluate Obama’s past relationships when the story is forced into the MSM. And it surely will be.
How can anyone in their right mind cast a vote for someone with these past associations unless they are either aligned with those philosophies, or just downright brainwashed by the “historic moment”. I don’t know which of the two choices is more dismal for the future of this country.

(DENVER) — The Democrat National Convention speaker line up will feature a number of “real people” talking about the pain of living in these tough economic times, including an Indiana railroader, a Michigan truck driver, and an ordinary working mother from New York who’s saddled with $24 million in campaign debt.
The woman, who spent that money in an effort to get a better job, saw her hopes and dreams crushed because of sex discrimination in the Democrat party during the Bush administration.
Her husband has no regular paycheck and must often travel hundreds of miles to find work, so the high price of fuel has cut deeply into their monthly budget.
While she has tried to “pull herself up by her own bootstraps” by asking supporters of presidential nominee Barack Obama to pay off her debt, near-recession conditions have kept them from being able to help.
A spokesman for the DNC said, “This story will help TV viewers to see the brutal impact of eight years with a Republican in the White House. Lots of woman will identify with her plight. Whether you are black or white, brown or yellow, liberal or conservative, it is worth reading this and the original article carefully if you intend to vote for Barack Obama.

….Notably, in his speech, (earlier this year) Obama mentioned the slavery history of the family of his wife, Michelle. He failed to say one word about the unsavory slave-owning past of his own white relatives. Historical records uncovered by researchers and posted on the Internet at: http://www.freedomsenemies.com/_more/obama.htmshow that Obama’s maternal forbearers were slaveholders. In fact, one of Obama’s ancestors, George Washington Overall, owned two slaves as is recorded in the Nelson County, Kentucky 1850 Census. The same records show that another one of Obama’s ancestors, Mary Duvall, also owned two slaves. All of Obama’s slave-owning forbearers were Democrats.
Obama, following in the footsteps of his white ancestors, is also part of the Democratic Party that: (1) fought to keep blacks in slavery; (2) started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize Republicans—black and white; (3) passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws; (4) fought every piece of civil rights legislation from the 1860’s to the 1960’s; and (5) attacked Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and other civil rights protesters with skin-burning fire hoses and vicious dogs.
Another little known fact:
While hiding the racist past of the Democratic Party, Obama refuses to give credit to the Republican Party that: (1) started in 1854 as the anti-slavery party and fought to free blacks from slavery; (2) amended the Constitution to grant blacks freedom, citizenship and the right to vote; (3) started the NAACP to stop the Democrats from lynching blacks; (4) passed the civil rights laws of the 1860’s that were overturned by the Democrats when they took over Congress in 1892; (5) founded the HBCUs; (6) started affirmative action enforcement in 1969 to help blacks get jobs and contracts based on merit; and (7) fought the Democrats for over six decades until Republicans finally achieved passage of the civil rights laws of the 1950’s and 1960’s under the leadership of Republican Senator Everett Dirksen of Illinois.
It defies logic for Democrats to claim that, after Republicans spent over 100 years fighting the Democrats on behalf of blacks and finally won, all the racist Democrats suddenly rushed into the Republican Party. In fact, those racist Democrats declared that they would rather vote for a “yellow dog” than a Republican because the Republican Party was known as the party for blacks. Facts about the racist past of the Democratic Party can be found in such books as A Short History of Reconstruction by Dr. Eric Foner, Unfounded Loyalty by Rev. Wayne Perryman, Bamboozled by Angela McGlowan, and Wrong on Race by Bruce Bartlett.

Just in case there is any doubt that OPEC is still alive and well maintaining its control over oil production, just take a minute and read the following carefully:

An Iranian official in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said Saturday that the producers group is considering leaving oil production levels unchanged or perhaps even trimming them to shore up lagging prices and defend market share.
“The market is oversupplied by at least 1 million barrels a day. If OPEC would like to remove this additional oil out of the market, then OPEC has to cut some production,” OPEC governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi told Dow Jones in a telephone interview.
“There will be maybe two options. One option is maintaining the level of production. It means OPEC will roll over the production. The other option will be some decrease in production,” he added.
The topic will lead OPEC’s agenda when representatives of the group’s 13 member nations gather Sept. 9 in Vienna to discuss production policy.
Oil prices peaked in early July at over $145 a barrel. They have since fallen 22% as the high prices carved deeply into demand, especially in the transport sector. The September crude oil futures contract closed Friday at $113.77 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, a fresh three-month low. See Futures Movers.
Khatibi’s comments come just a day after OPEC said higher prices and weak economic conditions in most industrialized nations are slowing global oil demand.
“Summer strong oil demand growth in China, Middle East and Asia has not been enough to offset the huge decline in OECD oil demand in the second quarter,” the producers group said Friday in its monthly oil report.
The group’s latest estimate trims 2008 demand growth by 30,000 barrels per day — its fifth consecutive month of downward revisions. The group now estimates global oil demand this year will average 86.9 million bpd. It sees demand inching up to 87.8 million bpd next year.
At the same time, the revised forecast sees oil demand from OPEC’s members slipping to 32.1 million bpd, or 100,000 bpd less than in 2007. The 2009 forecast extends the trend, with demand for OPEC oil easing to an average of 31.3 million bpd. The drop is the result of slowing demand growth and oil coming into the market from newly developed fields in non-OPEC nations.
OPEC claims it has bumped up output to help calm the volatile oil market, pumping 32.64 million bpd in July, or 780,000 bpd more than in April. The group’s monthly report also said OPEC is now producing “well above the demand for its crude.” — MarketWatch
The U.S. House and Senate Democrats better start working with the Republicans (who have been working through the recess) and pass that vote to open up our current oil fields and shale deposits to start seeking energy independence from OPEC. OPEC says the world does not need the amount of oil they are producing so they will cut back. Dems don’t you get it? You cannot control the price of oil by simply not using it. Oil used as a basic starting material for virtually everything we consume not just gasoline! The reduced demand just means OPEC will produce LESS to keep the oil price where ever they want it. Too high and they drive the world into recession/ depression. They don’t want that either because consumption will drop. Too low and their profits drop — so they cut back. The point is the WANT CONTROL. That’s their bargaining chip. This maintains their global political control since by shutting off oil flow they can in effect successfully hold the world hostage as world ecomomies fall into recession or worse. Russia has now joined as a major oil producer. They look at us as fools for not developing our energy sources right here at home !! They WILL take advantage of our stupidity.
Pelosi, Obama, Reid and the other back peddlers are just now waking up to these economic facts. Yes, the back-peddling has begun to get themselves closer to the Republican position on oil drilling. Voters need to make their voices heard in November and boot the naive morons and political opportunists out of Congress in November on both sides of the aisle and vote for leaders who will get America to start seriously using our technology to make energy recovery within our country environmentally safe and efficient. They need to do this instead of telling us to check our tire pressure or simply conserve and sacrifice pandering to their far left base.
There is plenty of U.S. recoverable oil to last well into the next millennium and we can make its use more efficient through technology over time. Why should I believe this? America can put a man on the moon, unleashed the energy stored in matter both confined and unconfined, so there should be no doubt that we have the scientific capabilities to achieve this. At least use the current state of the art drilling techniques and recovery technology being used in other countries to help make us less reliant on oil from countries that hate us. We should do this while we develop the other new petroleum sources like shale oil recovery. In fact just recovering oil from wells that we have already drilled with these modern new technologies would be a big start in the right direction!! Just get these self serving politicians out of the way and stop handcuffing our right to become energy independent. It may just become a matter of national security sooner rather than later.
Then there is this excerpt from the Washington Post to consider:
Here’s a dispatch from the Aug. 13 edition of the Financial Times: “OPEC pushed its oil production to the highest level in its 48-year history last month, even as demand was slipping in the United States and Europe, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said yesterday.”
That dramatic increase in OPEC oil production, adding about 300,000 barrels daily to the world market — an estimated 200,000 barrels a day less than what industry experts think OPEC can produce — has helped to reduce the per-barrel price of oil by 24 percent over the past month, bringing it down to about $115 a barrel from a July high of $147.27.
Gasoline pump prices have fallen in turn, dropping below $4 a gallon for regular unleaded for the first time this summer. Oil industry experts are predicting that those prices will fall to at least $3.65 a gallon by summer’s end.
The financial markets and consumers are all giddy over that news, like junkies who have just been given a free fix. They need to get control of themselves. They are being suckered, snookered worse than a pitiful street-corner addict.
OPEC is engaging in addiction marketing. It is doing now what it has done before whenever its biggest customers start getting serious about reform. It has increased production, lowered the price and made its drug of choice more accessible — all in a bid to keep its high-paying customers hooked.
OPEC knows what the drug dealers know: Addiction is so much more attractive than the hard and often painful work of cleaning up one’s act. Affordable addiction is even more attractive. It dulls the senses and corrupts the will to change, to travel a different and ultimately more nationally secure route.
The questions are: Will we fall for OPEC’s latest fix? Will we abandon the path toward energy conservation and a more energy-secure nation? Will we sell our nation and our souls for another OPEC high?

Sounds like the Clintons will try their best to hijack the Denver Convention. We wish them well. It’s been almost 40 years since we have all seen a good convention demonstration.
All ye 50+ year old hippies who missed the last big one ( the Democrat National Convention in Chicago 1968 ) here’s your chance to make up for it in Denver in 2008! Come re-live your youth and bring back some of those good old “fighting in the streets” and “power to the people” memories.
The Clintons are not giving up just yet:
As Democrats near the Aug. 25 start date of their party convention, Sen. Hillary Clinton acknowledged in her chat that “excitement and curiosity is certainly starting to build” but that “no decisions have been made yet.” (regarding a roll count vote on the Convention floor.)
Clinton said, “I will make sure that we keep you up to date and involved with all of the convention activity.”
Flying from Minneapolis to Chicago, Obama described working with Clinton’s staff as “seamless”.
Asked whether or not entering Clinton’s name into nomination would heal party rifts, Obama said, “I don’t think we’re looking for catharsis. I think what we’re looking for is energy and excitement about the prospects of changing this country.”
Obama provided no further detail on Clinton’s convention activities, stating only that “it is getting worked out by our staffs” and stressing their shared enthusiasm “for a unified party”.
A Convention Nomination?
Asked whether or not her name would be placed into nomination at the convention, Clinton did not rule out the possibility and said, “Senator Obama and I share the goal of ensuring that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected.”
Clinton’s Thursday Web chat follows remarks she made to a gathering of supporters last week during which the New York senator said she’s looking for a “strategy” for her delegates to have their voices heard and “respected” at the Democratic National Convention. — ABC News
There is no love lost between Hillary, Bill and Obama. Especially bitter is Bill Clinton who is reported as still fuming about Obama’s claims that he was playing a race card during the campaign. Also rumored is that a special holding area has been set up outside of Denver for the possible arrests of demonstrators in the event the scene downtown gets ugly. The DNC will do everything it can to prevent creating such a negative media event just weeks before the election. ( Sounds a bit like protesting in downtown Beijing doesn’t it? )
